LOVE SAVES THE DAY 2019

Love Saves The Day took over Eastville Park for an eighth time this year, bringing a diverse range of music to Bristol.  Some welcome Saturday sunshine saw temperatures soar as South London producer Ross From Friends brought his set to life with live instrumentation having recently signed to Flying Lotus imprint Brainfeeder.  The Paradiso stage…

LOVE SAVES THE DAY 2017 – PICK OF THE LINE-UP

The festival season is very nearly upon us.  So close in fact that Bristol’s Love Saves The Day is little over a month away.  Entering its sixth year in Eastville Park, the two day festival takes place this 27th and 28th May, showcasing a huge variety of genres and bringing together an extraordinary mix of…

IMPERIAL X K.I.N.E.T.I.K. – JUST ANOTHER DAY

Producer Imperial and MC K.I.N.E.T.I.K. release ‘Just Another Day’, a single taken from their ‘Pencils Not Pistols EP‘.  All organs and percussion, the beat screams Summer, which pairs brilliantly with K.I.N.E.T.I.K.’s light-hearted subject matter.  The duo have a relationship built on their shared appreciation of grammar, Parma ham and pavlova – a far more British…

KWAMIE LIV – COMIN THRU

Danish-born Kwamie Liv must tire of comparisons of her latest track ‘Comin THRU’ being to M.IA., but both Baby Duka’s production and the DGAF, street corner aspirations in that catchy chorus bear a striking resemblance to the ‘Kala’-era Bangladeshi.  Comparison aside, the track treads a brilliant line between in-your-head hype track and feel-good, summery nostaliga.  Stream below via SoundCloud.

WHITE ’95 MAXIMA – BLACK EL [PROD. DURKIN]

After impressing with ‘Olde English 800‘, rapper Black El once again hooks up with producer Durkin.  ‘White ’95 Maxima’ has a laid-back, Summer-in-Miami vibe, with bassy synths and big eighties snares.  Clearly nostalgic specifics are a bit of a motif of Black El’s, what will the next one be?  Stream below via SoundCloud.

BLACK EL – OLDE ENGLISH 800

We’re new to Black El, but this nostalgic ode to summertime forties is pressing all the right buttons.  Production comes from Victor Radz and Durkin (remember that Rihanna remix? mmm), which feels low-key and hazy and sits perfectly underneath El’s accomplished throwback rhymes.  Stream below via SoundCloud.

JUNA COSMOS – ON THE WIRE

London’s Juna Cosmos will releases his forthcoming project, ‘Mindless’, later this Summer.  To that end, this week comes ‘On The Wire’, a hazy, Summery track with a haunting vocal loop taken from Metric’s ‘Black Sheep’.  On the track, Cosmos bemoans the way Hip Hop often seems to place the trappings of financial success over recognition of the music…
