When you have as much heritage as A Tribe Called Quest, releasing a new album after a hiatus [eighteen years in Tribe’s case] comes with a whole extra set of pressures. Add that to the fact that this is their first album since the tragic death of band member Phife Dawg, and you have a pretty difficult sixth album. According to Q-Tip though, ATCQ “easily slipped back into the zone”, and it sounds like it. Verses from the late Fif as well as Busta Rhymes and Andre 3000 give the album the timeless feel needed to cement it as a classic, but with a little help from Jack White, Anderson .Paak and Kanye West the sound is anything but dated.
