We all know the story: a promising young artist signs a record deal and succumbs to pressure from the label and ends up putting out a more commercial, watered-down version of his sound. This can often be the case, but not when that artist is British beatmaker Iglooghost and that label is Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder. The brilliantly eccentric Iglooghost has quite clearly been allowed completely free reign on ‘Chinese Nü Yr’, collaborating once again with Mr. Yote and telling tales of “a gelatinous worm-shaped creature who wears a witch hat called xiāngjiāo” through quite possibly the most frighteningly surreal electronic beats we’ve ever heard.
