Golden Rules is comprised of South London producer Paul White and Florida MC Eric Biddines. The story goes that having discovered Biddines’ ‘Planetcoffeebean 2′ online, White emailed some beats on the off-chance Biddines would listen to them, and a few days later was surprised to find several finished tracks in his inbox. Soon after Eric was on a plane to London and Golden Rules was born. Their debut LP is among the most colourful you’re likely to have heard in a long time, thanks to Biddines’ inimitable story-telling style and a production style that changes with each track. The word ‘quirky’ is one that comes with certain connotations [particularly where Hip Hop is concerned], but it couldn’t be more fitting in the case of Golden Rules. Biddines’ unadulterated Southern style and White’s varied, live instrumentation go together in such an unlikely, but brilliantly unique way. Singles ‘Auntie Pearl’s House‘, ‘Never Die‘ and ‘Play Some Luther‘ certainly shine out, but our album highlight has to be ‘Holy Macaroni’, which just might be the most endearing track we’ve ever heard!
