Model 86 is the moniker of Manchester-born, London-based producer Matthew Wilcock.  Other than this, and the fact that he’ll soon be releasing an EP called ‘Self Help Dance’, new track ‘Friend’ is pretty much all the information we have to go on.  Happily, ‘Friend’ is quite possibly the best thing we’ve heard all year: stabbing synths, discordent yet playful melodies and chopped up vocals work together, rather than against one another, thanks to a rock solid percussive foundation.  On the track, Wilcock wields his creativity like a child with a new toy; seamlessly fusing unexpected combinations of genres and instrumentation.  With all this in the mix, it’s no wonder that Model 86 cites the likes of Flying Lotus and Boards of Canada among his chief influences.  Stream ‘Friend’ below via SoundCloud.
