Last night, the Wu assembled in full on The Daily Show and gave us the first glimpse into their upcoming album, ‘A Better Tomorrow’, in the form of a live performance of ‘Ron O’Neal’. Straight after the show, RZA uploaded shared a CDQ version of the track, and as far as Province is concerned there is good news and bad news. The good news is that Wu Tang Clan are back together, and are clear on exactly what their next move is going to be. Also in the good news category is that everyone, to a man, still has exceptional bars in their arsenal (RZA’s verse in particular is a ‘Ron O’Neal’ highlight). However, the bad news is that while the track is definitely good, it isn’t exactly the inspirational, exception-to-the-rule stuff that made ’36 Chambers’ so legendary. ‘Ron O’Neal’ has served to lower our expectations of ‘A Better Tomorrow’ a little, and we haven’t even mentioned that nasty hook and cover art.
