Isaiah Rashad is all-too-often referred to as ‘the TDE rookie’, or something similar. His debut EP makes such a description sound ludicrous, sounding more like an East Coast stalwart than a Tennessee newcomer. At fourteen tracks long, ‘Cilvia’ should really be considered more of an album than an EP. Rashad’s excellent lyrical style and the old school, yet often wavy-sounding, production aside, one of the best things about ‘Cilvia’ are the contributions from labelmate SZA – the two clearly have a great working relationship. If there is one criticism, it’s that Rashad’s style isn’t exactly dissimilar to Kendrick’s, but let’s face it – that can hardly be considered criticism.
