CITIES AVIV – URL IRL

Memphis MC/producer Cities Aviv drops the visuals to ‘URL IRL’, the first release from his debut album ‘Come To Life’ (January 28).  Hip Hop beats are borne of Bronx DJs chopping up their parents’ old Soul records, and as this certainly ain’t broke, Hip Hop never fixed it.  With ‘URL IRL’, Cities Aviv (real name Gavin Mays) seems to apply this approach to 80s House, slicing it up into a jarring, almost unpalatable mix.  The result is a sound that is as fresh as it is feel-good, and made all the more appealing by Mays’ deep vocal (which sounds uncannily like that of Death Grips’ Stefan Burnett).  Watch the video below via YouTube, or click here to stream his Mishka-released ‘Black Pleasure’ mixtape via BandCamp.
