Released today through the Samsung app, Jay-Z’s ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ has already gone platinum after its release prompted the RIAA to change the rules on certification – #NewRules indeed.  The album is classic-sounding, and although not as progressive as ‘Yeezys’ (an album with which comparison is sure to become tedious), it still sounds fresh thanks to sublime production from Pharrell, Swizz Beats, Timbaland and Rick Rubin.  Jay’s bars are still hard-hitting and dripping with his patented grandiosity.  The album itself isn’t dissimilar from ‘Watch The Throne’, but what it lacks in Kanye Jay more than makes up for.  Highlights include the Frank Ocean hook on Oceans, and that ridiculously satisfying beat from Holy Grail.  Stream below via Spotify.
